Alert Commander App Reviews

Easy to Manage, but constantly CRASHES!!!

Installed the software, easy to setup and manage...but it consistantly crashes and when does finally work within a few mins it says my cam is offline. Logitech needs to update the software immediately!

Works great

The only issue I had that I did not have with Windows, was I cannot change the order of the picture that show up on the iPhone App. Wish we had the option to record fulltime instead of motion only.

Not ready for Mac

I have installed this twice and the live view still does not work. This is the only piece of Mac software that doesnt work on my 2009 Mac Pro with 16gb of ram.

Wonderful!!!

The more I use this app the more I love it. Just found the fast forward dial during playback, very neat! This app is very fluid, very quick and works well. An awesome side note is this app supports multiple computers! Very rarely if I leave the app open in full screen mode and switch after recieving a notification the app will stop responding but not a deal breaker personally.

Finally! But stop making me select which site I want to manage!

Very easy install, and now I dont need to keep a PC around soley to record my footage. Needs to stop asking me which site I want to manage every time I wake my computer up, however. I only have one camera. At least add a "default to this site automatically" option.

Needs work...

Live view doesnt work on a new MBPr, all software up-to-date, just frustrating. Settings does kinda work, but not what it should for such a costly system. Please update soon, others mention many other problems that I have too.

updating camera

Ive been having problems with adding a warrenty camera repair back into my network. The new camera has a new software that my older system doesntt reconize and will not update older software because is has the new OS Mac commander. The older system will not update after installing Mac software because its not seeing the cameras. Ive installed, unistalled a few times now... still no change.

Overall Pleased

I am using this on an old iMac to monitor 2 exterior cameras. The iMac runs 24x7 to ensure videos are transferred from the camera up into the Cloud in near real-time. Set up was easy and the features seem to work as advertised with limited "quirkiness". Compared to a lot of the options out there these seem quite solid. The only issue Ive seen so far is a few times the tranfer of videos from the cameras to the iMac has stopped with no error message. Quiting the app and re-opening it works fine and the iMac catches up with the videos stored in the cameras. Im deducting a star over this issue. It isnt constant but does require me to check the status periodically.

Totally Satisfied

I have had the external camera setup installed now for three weeks and everything is working perfectly and as advertised. Installation was a breeze. What a great solution to my security challenges here in Mexico.

IF IT DOESNT WORK FOR YOU

Then there is a good possiblity you are long past due for a complete reformat of you hard drive. I know you dont want to hear it but Macs get cluttered too. Not nearly as bad or as often as PC but they do. Reformat and this program will not only work to its full but youll be surprised how much better yours system as a whole runs.

Its good, when its good!

I bought this video system a few weeks ago and installed it and it worked very well. Then I had to unplug it to move the power cord. When I plugged it back in it was dead. After all the troubleshooting and noting the LED under the camera was dead I returned it to the retailer. The replacement works just fine but my experience is that they can inexplicably die. It is a great high resolution system without the usual dreadful 600 line TV resolution that Ive looked at. I dont think you could read a license plate unless you were directly in front and up close, but its good enough to be able to record and be able to recognize a neer-do-well.

Mac Alert Commander - Yay!

Glad we finally have a Mac version of the Commander software! Its working great for me, thanks for creating the Mac version!

No video streaming initially, but now works with Logitech fix!

Hi, if youre having the issue where you dont see live video streaming, this is the fix that worked for me. I have 1.0.1. Logitech should really post the fix here so that people dont have to hunt for it. Heres a copy/paste from the Logitech forums: Hi Everyone, We continue to work with Apple to get a fix pushed to all Mac users with QuickTime. This has been a solution that seems to work for most people, but please understand you are making these changes on your own and are not officially supported work arounds: Sometimes Quicktime streaming settings can be set such that they do not work correctly with Alert cameras. To resolve this issue, do the following: 1. Shut down Alert Commander for Mac and make sure it isn’t running. 2. Open a terminal window (type "Terminal" in Spotlight, or navigate directly to the Terminal application). 3. In Terminal, type “qtdefaults read TransportSettings” and then press enter. Make note of the message that is displayed. 4. In Terminal, type "qtdefaults write TransportSettings UDP 554", and then press Enter. You should get a confirmation that QuickTime has been set to use UDP port 554 (if not, repeat step 3). 5. Restart Alert Commander. If you wish to revert this change please do the following: 1. Shut down Alert Commander for Mac and make sure it isn’t running. 2. Open a terminal window (type "Terminal" in Spotlight, or navigate directly to the Terminal application). 3. In Terminal, type "qtdefaults reset TransportSettings", and then press Enter. You should get a confirmation that QuickTime has been reset (if not, repeat step 3).

Logitech Security System

Bought this system wanting a IP based camera system. This system is an IP based system, although it doesnt have a builtin server like Arecount cameras costing tons more, this system works great and has a lot of bang for the buck, thank you Logitech! There is a caviot for macosx and Logitech should put it into the manual somewhere. I too had a problem seeing live video. It is because of UPD port 554 and Quicktime. If you cannot see live video, open Terminal application and type "qtdefaults write TransportSettings UDP 554". Another user pointed this out. Also, this system is fully PoE. You do not need the Power modules or Network receiver module dispite what Logitech helpdesk says. I have my system working using a Trendnet PoE 8-channel gigabyte switch. The MAC ALERT COMMANDER software, my network, PoE switch, and Cameras are all that is needed for an ethernet wired system. Have a minor unresolved storage issue. The software says there is suppose to be a browse button under tools, storage, cameras-- but I dont see one. My Mac system disk is full and with no browse option cannot move backup target to ext disk with current macosx commander software. An option to store video on a NAS or HDD like one that attaches to a Netgear WNDR4500 (nice to be via camera firmware, but system application is fine). Would be nice if Logitech would supply an arm box (plugs into network) that would interface an alarm system contact with the camera system to select a home mode and an away mode automatically. I have lots of video of family consuming precious memory space. I know the system has time presets, but many of us come and go frequently and an interface into the primary alarm box would be sweet. The cell phone app is great and works well. Be nice if it was formatted with time on bottom so one could pick out video clips around the times in question rather than just backing up from most recent. Overall, well done Logitech and thank you for supporting multiple platforms.

Live View DOES NOT WORK

Upraded all FW on my camera, and installed this app. Live View DOES NOT WORK. Spinning wait icon only. Camera is communicating properly and I can see still images when editing the camera settings.

doesnt show video in Mountain Lion

This software needs to be updated to work with the current OSX versions. Cant recommend it.

Limiting

I would give the actual cameras five stars for ease of set up. You cant get much easier than plugging them into an outlet, installing the software itself. I was up and running in no time. The real hassle came with this software, however. I wanted to save the video to a dedicated drive. However, the software is quite hobbled under 10.6.8. You literally cannot define a hard drive to save the video to. It defaults to your home folder, and places the downloaded video from the cameras in your Movies folder there. This is just unacceptable. Especially when the files for just a day and a half of use already totals 2.85 GB! Apparently, if the software is run under OS 10.7, you can designate a different location to store the files. I prefer to continue using OS 10.6.8 and it is just sloppy for them to create a program this hobbled. It is unacceptable. Otherwise, the software seems fairly stable under 10.6.8. I have not run it extensively under 10.7; only doing so long enough to see that it had the capacity to save movies to a dedicated drive under that OS. I called Tech Support twice. Neither of the technicians seemed to be aware of this problem, even though it is documented on their help site. I was able to find it there while I was on the phone (on hold) during my second call (on my own after some extensive searching). You would think the technicans would have been able to tell me about the programs documented flaw immediately (they seemed to be utterly unaware of it, resulting in about three hours of wasted time on my behalf troubleshooting the software thinking something was wrong with my system). The first call was to an english speaking technican. The second, clearly was to an outsourced facility where, while the technican spoke english well enough, he certainly didnt understand it very well. The program would be better served by having different controls for night time for brightness and contrast, and for day time. Apparently, if you change these settings, it affects daytime and night settings the same, which is ridiculous, as CLEARLY the lighting is DIFFERENT resulting in brightness and contrast settings needing to be so as well. While it does have pop out windows, the main program remains open. And if the program is minimized to the dock, it seems to freeze the frame. It does appear fairly stable, is easy to set up and use. You can set alerts that are emailed to you if the cameras detect any activity and you can designate zones for the camera to be attentive to to minimize areas that prompt recording. Scrubbing through the recorded video is fairly easy as well, and you can access the video file from the timeline through a drop down menu. However, it is absolutely beyond me why the recorded video does not have a time stamp. Overall, it is quite basic. I would very much like to access non-proprietary software for these cameras however that would offer a few more controls and would permit saving of the video files to a dedicated drive.

Can someone please put a little more effort & qa into this...

It consistently crashes and then stops dumping video to the hard disk so i end up loosing sometimes almost days woth of data if it goes unnoticed. I guess this could be circumvented with a mac os service to relaunch the app although upon launch you need to confirm your cameras for some reason.. Overall i like the cameras (when the sd errors dont occur) but for something so basic in functionality i cant fathom why they cant seem to get the software right… all we really need is the ability to capture, store and playback the footage when needed. Oh and by the way, the iphone app is atrocious, really pick a timeframe and scroll through stills in efforts to find something.. how about making it more like the web based version at LEAST. and those email alerts which allow you to click and go directly to the event that caused the alert.. can we fix that so it works on the iPhone .. common LOGITECH.. really? to bad this too will go unread by their application development team..

Its time to release a WORKING version for MAC 10.8

I bought Logitechs outdoor camera system based on Logitechs advertised specs for the system. But this app does NOT function with Mac OS 10.8. Not Happy. i have owned a 3 camera outdoor system for 5 months and no upgrades or fixes have been released by Logitech. If you havent bought yet - look elsewhere. On a positive note, sort of, one of the camera power supplies failed with less than 5 months in-service time. Much to my surprise, Logitech, was very prompt to send me a replacement at no cost. Logitech needs to upgrade to allow for some basic functions, the top of my list is: allow for CONTINUOUS RECORDING. Motion alerts are NOT adequate for many applications. Please fix these serious shortfalls. I will be happy to raise my rating when you do. Tx.

Works Perfectly and Instantly

I can not believe how fine this is. I have 3 cameras, and I had them up and running in moments. It took more time to screw in the mounts than to get it up on the computer. Quality is far better than what I see on most professional security cameras, and the controls from my mac are great. It is hard to believe anyone has a problem with this.
